The Curriculum

This first Spring half term in Calculation, we will cover subtraction and multiplication, then division in the second half term. In Geometry and Statistics, we will work on money, length, weight and capacity.Every day the children will continue to aim to beat their Quick Maths accuracy and time. Lessons will continue to begin with CLIC where your child will improve their mental maths skills. The children will experience more problem solving and reasoning to focus their attention on applying the knowledge, understanding and methods they learn.

Literacy
Talk for Writing will continue to be the method for teaching Literacy. We will start by focusing on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ as a stimulus for writing. We will use the
traditional story then look at texts using twists to this. The children will be doing lots of work on story writing, including using adjectives to extend their writing and to make it more interesting.
In our punctuation, we will be working on using capital letters, full stops and question marks.
In the second half term we will look at ‘The Queen’s Hat’ and ‘The Queen’s Handbag’ texts as a starting point for recounts and non-chronological writing. We will continue with Phase 5 phonics throughout this next term.
