St Walburga's Catholic Primary School

A Voluntary Academy

School Council

The School Council have a really important role here at St. Walburga’s.  We are the link between the pupils and the teachers and we work hard to make sure everybody’s voice is heard in school.  In September each class voted for the boy and girl that they believe would represent them and their classmates the best.

Each class has a School Council book which ideas can be added to between meetings.  The Councillors then bring these with them when we meet to feed back their ideas to the Council.  We then discuss these and see what needs to be done to help and improve our school.

This year we have been thinking about how to improve playtimes.  In our last meeting we designed a questionnaire to take back to our classes to find out what people feel works well at lunchtimes and what they think could be improved.  We will feed this back next time we meet.

Our other focus for this year has been making our school more eco friendly.  We will be working together with Plastic Free Shipley to help reduce our plastic use throughout the school.  We already make sure school is recycling as much as possible and have done weekly litter picking in the playground.

"I like coming up with new ideas to help the school. We are working on saving electricity and energy in school!" (Year 4 councillor)

"I like talking to the older children about how to change the school." (Year 1 councillor)
